Our story

About ButterThumb

Some of the best recipes never made it into a cookbook. They live on handwritten cards, in kitchen drawers, and in the memories of the people who make them.

ButterThumb is creating Heirloom: a family cookbook everyone builds together. One person starts a book, relatives contribute photographs of recipes and the stories behind them, and the collection becomes a printed hardcover.

Keep the handwriting. Keep the story.

A readable transcription helps the next generation cook the dish. The original handwriting keeps a little piece of its author on the page. We believe both belong in the book.

Starting small, making it personal

We’re launching with a hands-on process: collecting recipes through a shared upload link and preparing transcription and layout by hand. Final pricing, printing details, and delivery timing are confirmed before an order is placed.

Made together, passed down together

Whether the occasion is Mother’s Day, a wedding, or a family reunion, the goal is the same: bring the recipes out of the drawer and give the family something to keep.
